Let me start by saying that whoever created the concept of knotless braids is the goat! For those who don’t know, I’ve been natural all my life and have never done anything to my hair (no extensions, heat, nothing)! Being that I am finally going on vacation this year, I wanted to do a hairstyle that would be easy to maintain, low-manipulation, all while still protecting my hair. So, I decided to let my sister, Ashley hook up my hair and get knotless braids for THE FIRST TIME!
Hearing so many horror stories about fellow black girls and the extension experience, I was a bit apprehensive to try this hairstyle. From fear of it being too tight, or the general hesitation of trying something new, the nerves creeped up on me. However, I’ve seen the way my sister effortlessly slays her braids all the time, so I quickly got over it and knew I was in good hands.
One of my favorite things about this hairstyle is that I was able to finally be carefree on vacation, which is the ultimate point of taking one. While I absolutely love taking care of my natural hair, it was good to not have my hands constantly in it, worry about the effects of it getting wet, or having 6 hour wash days. All my naturals know the process is REAL lol. Overall, I’m glad I branched out of my comfort zone this season and can’t wait to see the new growth from protective styling!
