First things first, Happy New Year! It’s been too long, but I’ve stopped putting pressure on myself to push out content aimlessly and have embraced the freedom of creating at the highest level at my own pace. In tandem with a renewed approach to creativity, I’ve endeavored to maintain an elevated mindset on all levels, especially regarding the new year. The quintessential crossover as the clock strikes 12 always seems natural, when in reality, with all that’s going on in the world, it’s to see that meaningful time change. While a new year presents a fresh start for self-elevation on all levels, it’s also an exciting chance to try something new (whether you’re a fashion lover like me or on the quest to discover who you are style-wise). Regardless of your category, keep reading to see how to level up your style in 2024.
Since Pantone’s Color Institute announced “Peach Fuzz” as the official Color of the Year, those in the style set have gladly embraced the warm hue, from fashion’s biggest runways like Jil Sander and Alaïa to editors and influencers alike. While I’m not mad at this year’s choice, I’ll always willingly embrace other hues, especially more saturated pinks like fuschia and Barbie pink. In line with my penchant for going against trend cycles, I styled multiple pieces within these shades to kick off the year. I wore a leather fur-trimmed coat as a dress layered over a turtleneck with pant boots. I took it up a notch with a furry bucket hat, leather gloves, and rings. After all, every good outfit is complete with accessories.
While I’m no stranger to the “coat as a dress” styling method, wearing this piece with boots that double as bottoms just hit differently. They were practical for New York’s brutal winter temps and added a sleekness that wouldn’t work with a typical bottom. Not to mention, choosing different textures for a monochromatic look creates depth and edge. In this case, the sheen from the boots and cozy hat brings a specific authority, while the mute vibe of the coat balances two loud pieces to produce a unique sartorial story.

”but just as it is written [in Scripture], “Things which the eye has not seen and the ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, who obey Him, and who gratefully recognize the benefits that He has bestowed].”
1 Corinthians 2:9 {AMP}
Much love and peace,
-Nay.
