Since the beginning of 2021, it’s been proven by the fashion industry that brown was going to take over this year. From some of the industry’s biggest runway shows by Bottega Veneta and Nanushka to the fashion week streets filled with brown tones, it’s quite clear that this classic color has made its way to the helm of fall fashion for this year and beyond. Even though I'm all about bright colors, I’ve always loved brown when it comes to the colder seasons. So, today I decided to create a look with this powerful neutral hue. If you’re looking to incorporate more brown in your wardrobe, look no further because I’ve got you covered!
As you can see, I decided to use one of my favorite methods when styling outfits - monochrome! I wore a brown, mock neck zippered dress with a chocolate vinyl leather coat and a pair of chocolate knee high boots. To accessorize, I threw on a pair of 90s brown sunglasses, assorted gold rings, and styled my knotless braids in bantu knots for even more of a vintage feel.
One of my favorite ways to pull off a monochrome look is to play with different textures and prints within that hue. As seen here, I mixed the brown tie dye print and brown snake scale with the dress and boots. Mixing prints that have subtle details like the ones pictured, creates a nice contrast, without doing too much to create a statement, yet polished look. Not to mention, the vinyl effect of the trench coat added the edge and structure that I really needed to accomplish the ultimate 90s fall vibe!
