I Just Found A Way to Style Summer’s Hero Color That's Far From Basic

It’s no secret that summer brings more sartorial opportunities than any other time of year. Prints are brought out in full force, cutouts are ever-prevalent, and bikinis are in heavy rotation. While these essentials have an unfailing staying power during the season, there’s one product that contributes to the glory of summer dressing like none other — a white piece.

Not only is the color extremely versatile, but it’s the best hue to combat those oppressive hot days. And wearing white can be just as statement-making as any vibrant red or classy butter yellow, especially through innovative silhouettes. The staple color even permeated some of the industry’s biggest spring 2024 runways, from Proenza Schouler’s figure-flattering sheer frocks to Ottolinger’s deconstructed white dresses.

Between following their cues and figuring out new ways to showcase my personal style through the never-ending heat wave, I finally decided to temporarily retire my color-obsessed ways and try a white look for the season. As seen above, I wore a twisted-front crop shirt layered over a minidress with denim fold-over boots. For a pop of color, I threw on orange-tinted sunglasses and classic gold jewelry.

As a fan of bold clothing, I wanted to wear the color in a non-basic way that remained true to my style. By pairing my white pieces with a different texture like denim, I was able to create more dimension in my look, without compromising cohesion. Similar to other colors, textures and silhouettes act as solids that contribute to a well-rounded ensemble (like the subtle details in mine). Whether you’re a maximalist maven who wanted to try something new or a minimalist who loves all things white, it’s clear that the color was made for all aesthetics. Keep scrolling for more photos from my outfit and links to each piece.
